Assisting Trow Group to recycle construction waste

Mobile Screening & Crushing (MSC) is helping manage construction waste through innovative shredding technology that enables contractors to significantly reduce their environmental impact. MSC, which has supplied over 270 mobile screening and recycling units throughout New Zealand during its 29-year history, is proud to be supporting Trow Group’s sustainability initiatives with specialist shredding equipment designed to maximise material recovery from construction and demolition sites.
“Trow Group deconstruct rather than demolish and try and re-use as many of the materials as possible, and our equipment helps them to do this”, says Dan Meikle, General Manager of MSC. The company’s Terex Ecotec TBG 530T High Speed Shredder and Terex Evoquip Caiman 150 Compact Shredder offer different approaches to material processing and are both being used by Trow Group. “The compact shredder’s drums spin at 0-31RPM, shredding to a larger particle size and offering more immunity to damage from other construction objects, while the high-speed unit operates at 1000RPM for a smaller particle size,” explains Dan citing the key difference between the machines.
Shredders for various applications
The Caiman 150 compact shredder offers impressive versatility with its twin slow-speed high torque shafts producing up to 80,000Nm per shaft. This enables it to handle multiple waste streams including construction and demolition waste, concrete, tyres, and general waste. Protection against damage from unshreddable objects has been carefully considered in both designs, with the TBG 530T featuring a screen kickback system that releases when encountering problematic materials, while the Caiman’s slow-speed operation provides natural protection against damage. Dan says the TBG 530T’s rapid setup time and the Caiman 150’s compact design make them particularly suitable for urban construction sites where space is limited. Dan says that both machines contribute to environmental benefits beyond waste reduction. “Shredders reduce volume to enable more weight to fit in a truck, which results in less truck movements and fuel consumption savings benefitting the environment.”
Hire or Purchase options
Both units are available with flexible procurement options, enabling contractors to access the technology through purchase or hire arrangements, supporting the construction industry’s shift toward more sustainable waste management practices. The equipment forms part of MSC’s broader offering of material processing solutions, which has earned it a reputation for handling difficult-to-process materials including aggregates, compost, woodchips, soils, and asphalt. As a family-owned business, it has maintained its focus on product quality and hands-on experience throughout its 29-year history. Dan says the company’s commitment to providing solutions rather than just equipment has seen it develop particular expertise in optimising customer productivity across various applications.
